From Bruegel to Rubens: Netherlandish and Flemish Drawings

Surveying the finest Northern European drawings in the Morgan's collections, From Bruegel to Rubens: Netherlandish and Flemish Drawings featured over one hundred works spanning the Gothic through the Flemish Baroque periods. A small selection of drawings by artists working in the tradition of Jan van Eyck (ca. 1390–1441) and Hugo van der Goes (ca. 1440–1482) was also included.

Focal points of the exhibition included drawings by Roelandt Savery (ca. 1576–1639), Jacob Hoefnagel (1575–ca. 1630), and other sixteenth-century artists, as well as a large group of drawings by such Dutch Mannerists as Hendrick Goltzius (1558–1617), Jacques de Gheyn (1565–1629), and Abraham Bloemaert (1564–1651). Later artists represented included Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640), Anthony van Dyck (1599–1641), and Jacob Jordaens (1593–1678). A small selection of related illuminated manuscripts and rare books was also on display along with several small art objects of the period.
