Etching at head of sheet, with three columns of letterpress verse below; first line: Once on a time a little French marquis ...
The print appears to be an anonymous etching after the design by Isaac Cruikshank which illustrates another recorded edition of this comic poem published in London in 1796 by Laurie & Whittle and printed by John Rider.
A Frenchman is shown addressing a Dutch family, gesturing towards a building at left with one hand as he does so; a man stands with bent knees to his immediate left, smoking a pipe and looking on in amusement; at far right, a ship is partially visible.
