Renouf creates minimalist abstract paintings and drawings developed from her close attention to subtle properties of materials. This drawing, created in her studio in Washington, Connecticut, is part of a series of twenty drawings called the "Elements Series" and was inspired by the element water. She has written, "The experience of living in the country for three years became a source of inspiration for many of my art works, as I was moved by the closer presence of the seasons and the four elements." A series of staccato lines in graphite accumulate to create vertical strands that suggest the fluid movement of water.
