Notes:

Renouf creates minimalist abstract paintings and drawings developed from her close attention to subtle properties of materials. This drawing, created in her studio in Washington, Connecticut, is part of a series of twenty drawings called the "Elements Series" and was inspired by the element fire. Renouf has said that her rural surroundings and frequent use of a fireplace during this period informed the work. In her artist questionnaire, she wrote, "The short aleatory graphite lines were drawn in clusters with a quick energetic gesture inspired by the energy of sparks and flames."
