Inscribed on verso, in various hands, in graphite, at upper left, "771"; at center, "No ["o" superscript] 1803"; below center at scattered intervals, "Lucas van Leyden / 86 / Van der Goes? / Pupil of Van Eyck / 835"; in black ink, at lower right, "Van Assen certainly".
