Print shows a burlesque representation of the duel between William Adam and C.J. Fox on 29 Nov. 1779. Adam (right) dressed as a Highland chieftain, in tartan, with a very short kilt, a target on his left arm, fires a pistol at Fox, who holds out both his arms and leans back as if wounded, his pistol falling to the ground. Fox has a fox's head and a brush. Adam's second, a fat man (Humberston), stands full face with clasped hands, not watching the contest. That of Fox (left), who is thin (Fitzgerald), holds up his hands in alarm and appears about to intervene. Cf. BM Satires.
