Concerning the discovery that the Duke of York's mistress, Mrs. Clarke, was involved in the sale of army commissions.
Library's copy trimmed at foot with loss of imprint.
Print shows the Duke of York, in his night-shirt, bowing to Mrs. Clarke, in bed. He raises a night-cap set in a coronet, saying, "Oh! my Angel let me clasp thee in my fond Arms!!!" A label from the night-cap encloses the words: I am the Bishops Nightcap--what scenes have I witnessed behind the Curtain--between the Bishop & his Clarke. Mrs. Clarke says: "Dont you come York over me I am Clarke and won't say Amen till you promise me." At the head of the bed is pinned up a list: A Colonelcy for Noodle, A Bishoprick for Dr O'Dundhead, A Captaincy for------, A Majority for Doodle, An Ensigncy for my Foot Boy. A coronetted chamber-pot is inscribed Clarke & Co; it stands on a paper: Burkit for Plate--1500. On the ground by the Duke are a crosier and his breeches. Below is a short dialogue printed in letterpress between 'He' and 'She', with Mrs. Clarke's words as above, concluding 'until you promise to attend to the List I have pinned up at the head of the Bed'. It ends: 'Upon my Honor! my dearest Darling, I'll attend to any thing, and every thing, for love of you, my dear, dear, sweet little Angel!'
