Peel 0170
Published:
[ca. 1720]
Provenance:
Formerly owned by Sir Robert Peel.
Notes:
Print is lined onto a support of a heavy weight, cream-colored laid paper with a printed border.
The central design of this item consists of the portrait satire described in George no. 1681. It is pasted down on a larger sheet of paper with engraved marginal decorations depicting comic figures who appear to look into the image. It is the larger sheet which is inscribed Wilhelmus Koning, and the smaller one which is entitled "Quinquenpoix". Koning's design was popular as a frame for satirical prints. There is a copy of this print with the same border in the New York Public Library
