Drawing for an etched illustration for The miser's daughter, first published in book II, chapter 5, of Ainsworth's novel as it originally appeared as a serial publication in Ainsworth's Magazine, Volume II, 1842.
Drawing is signed by the artist and inscribed with a title below image in pen and brown ink and numbered "14" at head of sheet; on verso of mount: Vol. II, p. 262.
Drawing shows Randulph Crewe, gallantly raising Hilda's hand to his lips, as she sits at a Vauxhall Gardens dinner table, Lady Brabazon pointing the encounter out to Sir Norfolk Salisbury, who looks on with displeasure, other guests talking and eating at the table, a waiter bringing dishes of food, gentlemen talking beyond and watching a concert on a stage.
