Although Janos Scholz initially considered an attribution of this drawing to Innocenzo da Imola, he then began looking to artists around Carpaccio on the Venetian mainland. His attribution of it to Domenico Capriolo (otherwise known as Domenico Caprioli), an artist active in Treviso between 1518 and his death in 1528, was based on comparison with a drawing in Washington, although it has not been possible to trace that work.
