Notes:

Fascinated with astronomy, Crotty finds inspiration in the stars, comets, and planets he observes from a telescope in his homemade observatory in California. The present sphere--which extends drawing into the realm of sculpture--was inspired by M11, a cluster of thousands of stars formed about 250 million years ago and visible with binoculars towards the constellation of Scutum (Latin for shield). Combining scientific observation with fiction, Crotty conjures up fantastic visions reminiscent of Romanticism's sublime landscape.
