Notes:
Achille-Émile Othon Friesz, who later called himself Othon Friesz, was associated with the Fauves, exhibiting with them in 1907. During his later career he abandoned his interest in Fauvism and took up a more sober palette that looked to Poussin for inspiration. The present sheet on lined paper depicts two figures in bold, rapid lines. A woman works with a bowl while another figure appears behind her, to the right of a partition. Several line weights give this drawing a sense of calculated activity.
