Inscription:
Pencil inscription at head of sheet: Pont Newydd on the Elwy June 15 - bright noon. The most distant woods shew light & shadow. The lights have very little colour - just greenish. Their shadows are nearly if not absolutely colourless; appropriate portions of the sketch are variously annotated by the artist: "veg.", "thatch", and "rock."
