Notes:

Watermark: crown surmounted by a star (similar to Heawood 1118: Venice, 1564).
Friedrich Sustris, called Federigo Fiammingo (also Federigo di Lamberto and Federigo del Padovano)
Design for tapestry woven by Benedetto di Michele Squili now on deposit at the Arazzi della Soprintendenza per I Beni Artistici e Storici di Firenze (Inv. Arazzi 1912-25, no. 119).

Inscription:

Inscribed on old mount, in Richardson's hand, in brown ink, "Battista Franco"; below that, in another hand, "or Jac: Wijers"; at lower right, in graphite, "Voss 2, p. 335". On verso of mount, at upper center, Richardson's pressmarks, in brown ink, "N22. / DD22 / R."; at center, in an old hand, in graphite, "This beautifull and original drawing by Sustris will one day belong to a pretty Austr[i]an girl"; below at right, "Dec. 7 1742 / Richardson".
