Watermark: ZOONEN (fragment) on lined drawing.
Saint Igny's oeuvre as a draftsman began to coalesce in the 1980s when Pierre Rosenberg connected a sheet bearing a signature with a larger body of drawings attributed to Jacques Bellange. Christopher Comer further refined our understanding of Saint Igny as an artist, connecting the present sheet to three others related to a series of the five senses, including a sheet for the sense of Smell in the Ecole des beaux-arts, Paris (PM 2257), and drawings representing the senses of Sight and Hearing in the Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin (Kdz 13623, 13624). The drawing for Touch has yet to come to light.
