Reed and quill pen and brown ink, rubbed with the finger in a few areas, some corrections in opaque white at sides of low walls of portal, on paper; traces of framing line in brown ink.

Inscribed on the old Richardson mount, at lower left, in graphite, "No ["o" in superscript]- 8"; at lower center, in brown ink, "Rembrandt"; at lower right, in graphite, illegible dealer's code; on the verso of the mount, at lower right, in graphite, "10335".
