This portrait print is after a drawing by Tako Hajo Jelgersma (1702-1795) also in the Morgan collection (2007.97). The sitter is fellow Haarlem artist Izaak van der Vinne (1665-1740). Van Noorde was one of Jelgersma's students and his etching dates nearly twenty years after the drawn portrait. Van Noorde faithfully reproduced Van der Vinne from Jelgersma's drawing and included a poem about the sitter (who had died in the years between the drawing and etching). There are, however, certain changes: the tools at the sitter's right are slightly different and, more noticeably, the scroll on the back wall in the drawing is replaced with a painting or large print of a landscape in the etching.
