Notes:

From the series Scenes in Bohemia, published by Marco Sadeler, this imaginary view of a city with a gondola in the foreground was engraved by Aegidius Sadeler after a design by Pieter Stevens. In 1594, Stevens was appointed court painter to Emperor Rudolph II in Prague. The Morgan has one drawing by Stevens, View of Prague (2001.32), which dates from the same period as the print. The preparatory drawing for the print is at the Nasjonalgalleriet in Oslo (B.16606).
