Burgoyne Diller

Diller belongs to a small group of American artists (together with Ilya Bolotowsky and Fritz Glarner) who were close followers of Mondrian and embraced his strict form of geometric abstraction based on the use of right angles and primary colors. Throughout his career, Diller explored three visual themes with each theme corresponding to a particular type of relationship among planes, lines, and colors. The present drawing demonstrates the first theme, marked by monumentality and stasis, and the third theme, characterized by high color and dynamism and influenced by Mondrianʼs late works such as Victory Boogie Woogie.
