Alan Saret

Saret is associated with the post-minimalist generation of American artists- such as Eva Hesse and Richard Serra- who, in the late 1960s, developed a more organic approach to making sculpture, as opposed to the cold minimalist aesthetic. Saret's drawings are related to his sculptures made of soft, undulating volumes of chicken wire hanging from the ceiling. The present work is one of his so-called "gang drawings," created by sweeping a handful of colored pencils across the page. Varying the pressure, order of colors, and number of pencils, he obtained a shimmering effect similar to that of his sculptures.
