Partial border iIlustration for "The Black Dwarfs", depicting the verse: "And one with flagon hastens up, / The red wine at its brim; / And Ludwig takes the massey cup, / Embossed from stem to rim". Incorporated are the opening words of verse "The wind is up", comprised of decorative initial T" and stylized hand lettering, and the words "The Black Dwarf" with anthropomorphic initial "B", and stylized hand lettering.
