Inscribed by the artist, in pen and brown ink, at the lower left, "p[one]nte"; above this, "eufrate"; above this, "tigre"; throughout, labelling the figures, "D[ante], S[tazio], M[etelda], B[eatrice]"; on the right, "eunoe"; to the right of this, "Lethe"; below this, "[...] dante e Beatrice vanno a vedere le stelle".
