Binding:
Early 19th-century embroidered binding by Lady Louisa Strange (1788-1862) of maroon velvet with blue silk latticed inserts featuring designs of lillies on front and harp on back. Velvet panels embroidered in gold thead and wire with gilt raised bands on spine, gold clasp, and borders on covers; gauffered edges, inner silk doublures. Housed in late 19th-century silk-lined brown leather case.

Inscribed on front flyleaf: This book was engraved on silver plates for Maria Theresa / wife of Louis XIV / daughter of Charles II / of Spain. Given to Lady Strange by Miss [Mary Anne] Cameron, afterwards Lady John Hay - and by her to her son in law Edmund Ffoulkes in the days before his marriage in 1860. The cover worked by Lady Strange.
