Binding: 
16th-century Italian (Rome) red morocco, gold tooled with foliate ornaments and central medallion of eagle flying over a rocky shore and motto, "Este procul," by Niccolò Franzese for Apollonio Filareto. The rear board includes his name, Apollonii Philareti, and a pair of clasped hands, indicative of Filareto's allegiance to the Farnese. Schunke identified the binder as the "Filareto Master."
