Binding: 
16th-century English gold tooled brown calf, with the initials A.B. stamped in gold in decorative central cartouche on both covers, gilt and gauffered edges, by Thomas Berthelet; repaired. 4 ties, missing. Berthelet's tooling patterns seem inspired by those of the 16th-century Vatican and Arabesque Binders.
Inscriptions/Markings: 

Manuscript inscriptions by Lady Anne and Sir Nicholas Bacon in Greek and Latin, one by Nicholas concerns the birth of their daughter Susan Bacon on 19 Oct. 1556, whose birth is otherwise unrecorded: "Susan Bacon was born on mundaye [th]e XIXth of October beyng [th]e day next folowyng seynt lukes day An[no] 1556 at Westmestre betwene [th]e howres of X and XI in ye fornoone" (rear pastedown).
