Binding:
16th-century French black calf with gold tooled geometrical interlace design, by Claude de Picques (previously attributed to the "Entrelac Binder," i.e. Jean Picard) for Jean Grolier. The binding design is identical to two other Claude de Picques volumes at the John Rylands Library and Chatsworth (see Bookbindings from the Library of Jean Grolier (British Museum, 1965), nos. 78-79).

Jean Grolier (1479-1565), binding with ownership inscription: "Io. Grolierii et amicorum" and motto: "Portio mea domine sit in terra viventium"; M. Prévost, Councillor to Napoleon III, Rouen (cited in Austin); Marcel Thévenin (cited in Austin); Pierpont Morgan, purchased from either Rahir or Pearson, by 1906.
