Description:

The drawing comes from a Veronese collection and bears a note on the mount by Philip Pouncey “probably Moro?”, dated 1958. The draftsmanship of the del Moro family is as yet not well understood and there are no securely attributed drawings comparable to the Morgan study. Style and technique do however indicate a North Italian, and probably Veronese, origin for the sheet.

The drawing comes from a Veronese collection and bears a note on the mount by Philip Pouncey "probably Moro?", dated 1958. Acquired as Angelo del Moro. Possible attribution include Battista dell'Angelo del Moro (ca. 1515-ca. 1573); Marco dell'Angolo del Moro (ca. 1587-after 1586); Giulio dell'Angolo del Moro (1555-1616).

Watermark: Letter "N" and "A" with small tower ?(partly indecipherable).

Moscardo Collection, Verona, which passed to Marquis de Calceolari (according to Scholz records; no mark; see under Lugt S. 2990a-g); possibly Count Lodovico Moscardo (1611-1681), Verona; by descent to Teresa Moscardo Miniscalchi, Verona; Luigi Miniscalchi Erizzo; Count Mario Miniscalchi-Erizzo (1881-1957), until 1905; Mario Uzielli (1888-1973), Liestal, Switzerland; Janos Scholz (1903-1993), New York (Lugt S. 2933b).
