Notes:
Pearson studied at the Art Students League of New York with Reginald Marsh and Will Barnet in the 1950s, following several years in Japan. This ink drawing dates to the beginning of a ten-year period when Pearson created small drawings in a repetitive, linear style in bright colors and black ink. He compared the linear movement in these drawings to "breathing." Each one is as unique as a fingerprint, but collectively, they draw on the artist's experience creating topographical maps of Japan as an artist assigned to the Army Air Force during World War II.
