Notes:

Schimansky is an abstract artist whose primary medium is drawing. Exploring the expressive possibilities of the line, from thin, delicate pencil marks to broad ink strokes and ink wash, he has created an original body of work in which movement and rhythm convey a wide variety of feelings and emotions. Paying particular attention to the paper, Schimansky often manipulates it by folding it and unfolding it, as in this drawing. The grid of creases introduces another layer into the composition. He also often paints the verso of the sheet in order to alter the background of the recto.
