Sanín is a New York-based Colombian artist. She graduated in 1960 from the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota and began her career in London and Mexico. In the early 1970s, she settled in New York City and adopted a hard-edge style of geometric abstraction that situates her within a lineage of Latin American artists such as Carmen Herrera and Hélio Oiticica. Throughout her career, Sanín has made studies on paper for her paintings. In this unique collage study, she combined eight small geometric designs of varying sizes and shapes onto a single sheet. Each of the diminutive paintings was probably made around 1970 and assembled in 1975.
