Notes:
The watercolor depicts the view from Freilicher's studio in Water Mill on the East End of Long Island. She repeatedly painted this view across the marshes towards Mecox Bay, endowing it each time with a different sensation of color and atmosphere. An admirer of Pierre Bonnard, she emulated his sensuousness and sense of intimacy. This light-saturated landscape exemplifies the lyrical qualities of Freilicher's art.
