Summary:
Sketch shows the artist seated at a table with a brush in one hand and a candle in the other; blank sheets of paper are spread out before him as he regards himself intently in a mirror held up to him by a winged woman personifying Truth; at his back he is assailed by figures bearing his features who variously mock, weep, stare, or grimace at him.
