Notes:
Stephen Vitiello is known for his performances and installations involving sound. In his drawings, he explores the relationship between the aural and the visual. To create this work, he placed graphite, ink, and colored pigments in a speaker that was embedded in a table. A sheet of paper was laid on top. Vibrations from a synthesizer's low-frequency oscillator moved the drawing materials from the speaker to the paper. The artist described these works as "my attempt at a form of automatic drawing."
