Original watercolor of a design for a "yellow-back" cover for an edition of the Richard Cobbold novel The History of Margaret Catchpole; published by the firm of Thomas Hodgson, probably sometime during the 1850's, as v. 74 of their Parlour library series.

In pencil on verso: Parlour 74; in pen: Hodgson [at foot, inverted] This fold shorter in design.
