Original watercolor of a design for a "yellow-back" cover for an edition of the Alexandre Dumas novel The Black Tulip; published by the firm of Thomas Hodgson, probably sometime during the 1850's, as v. 108 of their Parlour library series.

In pencil on verso: Rosa, or The Black Tulip Parlour 108; in pen: Hodgson [at foot, inverted] This fold shorter in design.
