Drawing for an illustration for an unidentified work of popular fiction, probably dating from the first half of the 19th century; evidently the second in a series of three drawings depicting a fight over a card game (see 1986.2119-21), with a fourth drawing illustrating another episode from the same work (1986.2122).
Numbered "24" in pencil at upper right.
Drawing shows a man attacking another man over a card game as two other men seek to restrain him, upsetting a half barrel placed between them to serve as a table. The men, probably sailors, are variously dressed in plain kilts, high boots, and watch caps, and one of them, a Black man who has laid hold of the assailant by the arm, wears a full sleeved blouse.
