One of 86 portrait sketches of musicians including the likenesses of most of the leading composers, conductors, and instrumentalists of the first half of the twentieth century. All were done from life, and many appeared in Musical America.

Inscribed by the artist in pencil at upper right, "Alexander v. Zemlinsky"; signed at lower right "Dolbin"; inscribed by the artist in pencil at top of verso "B.F. Dolbin / 3746 85th Street / Jackson Heights, N.Y."'; at bottom of verson, "Portrait of the Composer Alexander v. / Zemlinsky / whose symphony is to be performed on Sunday".
