Inscription: 

Inscribed in pen and brown ink at lower right, "St. Michel, Limestone, (Jura) altered". Inscribed on verso in pen and black ink over a partially legible pencil notation, "All the stone work of the window above the/ door stands clear of the glass. So that/ light comes through behind, and the cusps/ are framed by a square detached band, so./ 4. Inlaid white marble with black./ 5. An excessively rich classical moulding/ too fine to be traced./ 6. The pattern on Greek columns, down to/ the cross, is double; meeting in the middle/ In the side compartment there are/ alternate leaves like the big one at the/ top of the middle compartment, and/ fruit-like bunches as at 6."; beneath a small sketch, "Rosette in capital of Greek column"; at lower right, "by J. Ruskin"; along lower right edge in pen and black ink, "P. 1/ 27".
