Purchased by Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) in 1909.
IV, 120
Notes:

One of a series of 108 drawings by Giambattista Tiepolo from an album bearing the title, "TIEPOLO DESSINS ORIGINAUX", inscribed by Edward Cheney, "E.C. Venice 1852 May 31 / bought from the Conte Corniani Algarotti".
In this drawing, two of Apollo's attendants restrain one of the horses of the sun god's quadriga. The drawing corresponds almost exactly to a detail in an oil sketch in the Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, that Giambattista Tiepolo executed in preparation for his 1740 fresco in the Palazzo Clerici, Milan. --Exhibition Label, from "Tiepolo, Guardi, and Their World: Eighteenth-Century Venetian Drawings"
