Attributed to Jonathan Richardson, Sr., in Fairfax Murray; confirmed by Carol Gibson-Wood ("Jonathan Richardson as a Draftsman," Master Drawings 32, no. 3 [1994], pp. 203-229), who suggests that the sitter may be one of Richardson's daughters.

Collector's mark of Jonathan Richardson Sr. inscribed at lower left in metalpoint, R., stamped at lower right in black ink and on verso at lower right.
