Description:

The drawing was published as by Santi di Tito in 1974 and entered the collection in 1993 under that same name. This attribution is no longer accepted and a Bolognese or Tuscan artist of the early seventeenth century seems more likely.

Notes:

The drawing was published as by Santi di Tito (Sansepolcro 1536-1603 Florence) in 1974 and entered the collection in 1993 under that same name.
Formerly attributed to Santi di Tito, Sansepolcro 1536-Florence 1602.
Watermark: none.

Inscription:

Inscribed on verso, at lower right, in pen and brown ink, "767-".

Provenance:
Possibly Giovanni Piancastelli (1845-1926), Rome (no mark; see Lugt 2078a) (possibly identical to drawing in Piancastelli collection list in János Scholz files called "Santi di Tito"); Edward (1857-1933) and Mary Brandegee (1871-1956), Boston (no mark; see Lugt 1860c); purchased by János Scholz (1903-1993), New York (see Lugt Suppl. 2933b).
