The woman's figure closely resembles that in another drawings illustrated by Hess, 48, and subsequently appears in the artist's painting The Manhole I (Hess, 49).
Inscription:
Signed and dated with monogram at upper right in pencil, "mAR 16 08 Lf"; inscribed by the artist at lower right, "woman's figure / in "1st Canalisations / Loch". Inscribed on verso in pencil, "nur Frauenfigur / Text unter Figure / stillen".
