This depiction of the ancient Roman statue of the Seated Hygeia, formerly in the Giustiniani collection in Rome and now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv. 03.12.11a), is one of a series of drawings by Francesco Piranesi probably made in connection with his "Raccolta di Statue Antiche." In addition to the three drawings at the Morgan (inv. 1966.11:128, 1966.11:129, and 1966.11:130), further studies from the set are found in the Piranesi albums at the Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe.

Inscribed at upper right, in pen and gray ink, "Gustinian"; numbered at lower left, in graphite, "45".
