Inscribed at lower right, in pen and brown ink, presumably by the artist, "Mateo da lezia pictor in / Roma nel 1568"; beneath this, in pen and a darker brown ink, "qual morse poi nel peru / compagno di jiacomo / palma Cazmo[mo superscript](?) [Carissimo?]"; on verso, at lower left, in graphite, "D. da Volterraþs Décor for Chap(?)"; beneath this, in a different hand, in graphite, "/3".
