Inscribed on mount at left, in graphite, "Adoration of the Infant Jesus"; at right, in graphite, "Jacopo Ligozzi"; below this, at center, in pen and brown ink, "Jacopo Ligozzi"; on verso of mount at lower left, in pen and brown ink, "Out of the collection of Count Geloso / 1827 WE - Ld[d superscript] Hampden's colln[n superscript] P N 20x"; at upper right beside a slight sketch of a profile of a frame?, in graphite, "10/0 (a fraction)"; at center, in graphite, "Jacopo Ligozzi"; on old backing, removed and now in departmental files, in pen and brown ink, "Jacopo LIGOZZI, born at Verona c. 1543, / died after 1632 / Out of the Collection of Count Geloso / and Lord Hampden's colln[n superscript]. P n ̊204. / and coll. W.E. 1827, + By Jacopo Ligozzi"; in another hand, in pen and brown ink, marked with a cross and intended as an insert after the "W.E. 1827", + W.E.= William Esdaile". There is also a printed label, removed from old backing and now in departmental files, which reads, "Richard Jeffreys, Carver, Gilder, Looking Glass and Picture Frame Manufacturer, Picture Dealer, Printseller and Gold Beater, Wholesale & Retail, No. 88, Bold Street, Liverpool".
