Preparatory study for one of the incidents in the story of Solomon on the vault of the Gallery of the Palazzo Mattei in Rome. An earlier version of the composition is at the Teyler Museum, inv. Inscribed on verso, in pen and light brown ink, "Pietro Cortona"; on mend in pen and dark brown ink, "Pietro Berretini da Cortona. / ob: 1669. aetat: 73. / Abedario. [sic] fol: 356"; in another hand, "38 / 28".
