Description:

Only a handful of drawings have been proposed as the works of Corona. These include an Annunication in the Louvre (inv. 5815; Venice 1966, no. 21), Crucifixion in the Brera in Milan (Cod. Resta F 261 inf., no. 109) and Mutius Scaevola putting his hand in the fire in the Witt collection, London (inv. 1725), all three with old inscriptions attributing the drawings to Corona, as well as the Virgin and Child with two female saints in Christ Church, Oxford (Hadeln 1926, no. 103), more recently published as Alessandro Maganza (Byam Shaw no. 841). Of these pen drawings, the Christ Church Virgin and Child resembles quite closely in style and handling the Morgan sheet. There exists also a preparatory oil sketch of Saints Augustine, William, Nicolas of Tolentino and Monika on the back of a panel painting in the church of Santo Stefano, Venice, which gives some indication of the artist’s draftsmanship (Venice 1981, 230).
