Description: 

Stylistically comparable to a series of drawings of the story of Philemon and Baucis painted by Bernardino Campi 1582 in the Sala delle Olimpiadi of the Palazzo del Giardino in Sabbioneta. Five such studies are in Hamburg (Schaar 1997, no. 14), two in the Kunsthaus Heylshof in Worms and an eighth was in an English private collection.

Inscribed at lower right, in graphite, "90"; on verso, an inscription in pen and brown ink cancelled in pen and black ink,; below this, in red chalk, Vallardi inventory number, "F 417"; to the left of center, in graphite, "N ̊10".
