Although the attribution of the sheet to Domenico Campagnola has been questioned, Tobias Nickel argues that there should be no further doubts about the work’s autograph status, and that it is characteristic of Campagnola’s work in the 1530s.
In 1961, Janos Scholz noted the similarity between the Morgan drawing and a sheet in the Albertina, Vienna (Schönbrunner-Meder 1896-1908, 12: 1353), which also appears to be by Domenico.
