The present sheet is one of more than 100 drawings by van Everdingen formerly owned by Ploos van Amstel and included in the sale of his collection in Amsterdam, van de Schley...Roos, 3ff. March 1800.
Signed with initials at lower left, in brown ink, "AVE". Inscribed on the verso, in graphite, at left, in Ploos van Amstel's hand, "A v Everdingen / hoog 7 / bred 12 dm" ["m" in superscript]; and at lower center, in another hand, "et-".
Watermark: Countermark: Letters "IHS", with a cross, and "IM" below (similar to Heawood, no. 1795: 1676), Cross extends from crossbar of "H", Letters "L" and "M" are on chain lines, Watermark crosses two chain lines.
